Consult the flux manufacturer for proper proportions.Fluxes classify as basic, acid, or neutral. Fluxes that contain oxides and break up easily during welding are basic. These provide oxidizing action and alloy with the weld metal to obtain desired mechanical properties. Acidic oxides break up slightly, for the same reasons. Welding voltage must remain within the range specified by the manufacturer of acidic and basic fluxes. Excessive arc voltage reduces the alloying of flux constituents with the weld metal.
